Baseball preview: Melillo, Murray quite a catch

..."I'm going to be a catcher until somebody tells me otherwise," the younger Murray said.Melillo's father, Jerry, went to high school in Florida, then played with the Orioles' farm team in the Appalachian League, where future major-leaguers Billy Ripken and John Hayban were teammates.The Melillos lived for 12 years near Tampa, Fla., but moved to Clinton when Jerry's job was transferred."My dad never pushed it," said Mike Melillo, referring to how his father's professional playing career helped his own.He played football and soccer, but there never really was a doubt where his long-term plans were focused."It (catching) is the easiest way to make it to the next level," Melillo said about his move from the pitching mound to behind the plate.

"Everybody always needs a catcher."A switch-hitting catcher with a strong arm helps, too.
