Carroll's hits features in plenty of NRL highlight clips but he says he cannot rely on his scrap book or any favours from the coach to keep his place in the team with so many players lining up for the back-row.

"You've got David Stagg, Corey Parker, Dane Carlaw, whose playing out of his skin and Thorny (Brad Thorn), so it's going to be very tough.

"If I don't perform, I will be back in the Clydesdales, I'm well aware of that and that will be playing in the back of my mind.

"I think I've used up all my favours (with Bennett) picking me this week." Dragons five-eighth Trent Barrett won't be too happy that Carroll has picked this game to make his comeback.

But Carroll, Darren Lockyer's unofficial right side minder, said he didn't have Barrett in his sights this weekend.

"I'll be too busy sucking the air in to worry about Barrett or anyone and I just want to do my job," he said.

Asked about the Dragons and the Barrett-Mark Gasnier threat, Carroll said: "I have no idea.

I haven't watched their games or anything, I've been worried about getting my hamstring right." Brisbane looked sharp on the paddock on Thursday with a quality 75-minute ball session highlighted by a lot of talk and energy.
